How Much is a Smartphone Worth Pt. 1

Image
Hello, this is TheTechBoy with a special report on the price of smartphones.  Quality smartphones, excluding foldable phones, are around 500-1000 dollars. Some people complain that smartphones are too expensive, and want cheaper cellphones. For context, I did a simple experiment finding things your phone replaces and adding them to a cart on Amazon.  1. Cellphone          I found a basic  cellphone on Amazon and it cost around 24 dollars. The cellphone in question is a BLU Z5.  2. Camera            I found a point-and-shoot camera that is around 130 dollars and comes with an SD Card. It is a 16 MP  Kodak PIXPRO with optical zoom.  3. PDA's          Before smartphones became popular, PDA's were used to keep track of your calendar, browse the web (on WiFi) and check email. PDA's stand for personal digital assistant. This PDA is a Dell Axim that features a 3.5-inch screen, Bluetoot...

Cubbit Software Review

Image
Hello, this is TheTechBoy with a review of  Cubbit software.  Disclaimer: Cubbit's beliefs about other cloud providers is not ours, and this review is just about Cubbit software and not their stances on other cloud providers.         Cubbit brands itself as an eco-friendly alternative to cloud software. It basically distributes encrypted chunks of data and hosts them on Cubbit "cells" around the world. According to Cubbit, "Cubbit protects your files with military-grade encryption , splits them into pieces, and safely distributes them over the network of Cubbit Cells through end-to-end encrypted channels." To read more about this complex infrastructure click here . On the other hand, regular cloud providers have servers where your data goes and not miniature "Cells" around the world.  An infographic showing the network of Cubbit cells and how they are connected Installation/Setup  After creating an account Cubbit asks you to download its appl...

BlackBerry end of life.

Image
Hello, this is TheTechBoy with an important report.  According to Blackberry, "the legacy services for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier versions, will no longer be available after January 4, 2022. As of this date, devices running these legacy services and software through either carrier or Wi-Fi connections will no longer [reliably function] , including for data, phone calls, SMS and 9-1-1 functionality." Emphasis added. According to BlackBerry, @myblackberry.com has also reached end of life. Find out more here . It does not seem like BBOS devices will cease to function, but the devices SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR DAILY USE because the devices may be unreliable to perform even basic functions. Also, 911 calling may not work and it would not be a reliable backup phone. Some BBOS devices may also be affected by the 3G shutdown in the US and its mobile data functions would not work at all. BlackBerry phones are at En...

Moleskine Smart Writing Set Review

Image
Hello, this is TheTechBoy with a review of the Moleskine Smart Pen. We recently received a Moleskine Smart Pen Writing set and have tested the pen and notebook out for a few days.  Also Read: How much is a Smartphone Worth?      The Pen itself is a nice-looking black pen that looks normal aside from the small opening near the tip of the pen. Inside the opening, there is a small camera that records your strokes on the special paper in the notebook that syncs to the app. The pen charges by Micro-USB and there is a power button on the top of the pen.  Unboxing:     The box of the Writing set is very nice and well organized. Inside the box, there are two notebooks, a large notebook, and under it is a pocket-sized notebook. Next to it are the pen and the charger. There is also a small manual and an extra pen nib in the box. It is packaged very well and makes unboxing an interesting experience. The pen also has a power button on the side of the pen. Unfortun...

5 reasons Android destroys IOS

Image
Hello, this is TheTechBoy, and this is the Android vs IOS debate series. In part two MaestroMO will do an article called 5 reasons why to choose IOS over Android.  Reason 1. Variety  Do you want a phone with a stylus? Get a Samsung Note, LG Stylo, or a Motorola G Stylus. Do you want an iPhone with native stylus support? Too Bad!                                                                  Reason 2 Emerging Technology Do you want a USB-C folding, flipping 5G phone? Get a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or Fold 5G or any 5G LG phone with a Dual Screen case. Do you want an iPhone with 5G (before iPhone 12) or a foldable or even USB-C? Too Bad! Reason 3 Modding Although iPhones get more  official  software updates, you can flash a custom ROM on an Android phone to get a newer Android software version.  Do...

Samsung A71 5G long-term review. Update: Updated title and added image.

Image
Hello, this is TheTechBoy with a long-term review of the Samsung A71 5G. For the device specs and a more in-depth article visit this page .  A71 5G THE GOOD   The Price:       The A71 5G is a decent midrange phone. It was released in 2020 and is a little over a year old now. Therefore deals can be found with prices under 400 dollars and could be seen as a competitor to some of the new budget/midrange phones coming out. It can also be a decent competitor to the discounted iPhone 11 and the iPhone SE.   The Basics:     This phone covers the basics such as calling and texting well. The call volume sometimes needs to be turned up, but the speakerphone works well. Texting works well and comes pre-loaded with Samsung Messages. However, I find the user experience of Google Messages to be nice and use that instead. The application can work on WiFi and uses some iMessage-like features such as typing notifications and being able to text from ...

5 Reasons Why IOS Destroys Android (5 Reasons Why to Choose IOS Over Android)

Image
Hello, this is Maestro MO Tech and these are five reasons why IOS ultimately destroys Android. Reason 1 Camera Quality On select iPhone models, you can get telephoto zoom, wide-angle, and extra-wide camera features.  On the iPhone 11 PRO, 12 PRO, and the 13 PRO all have telephoto zoom. But the iPhone, 12, and 13  have wide and ultra-wide cameras. Reason 2 Size On the iPhone 13, it has a nice thickness and a nice 6.1" screen. Compared to the Samsung S21 it is the same size. My favorite phone ( which is the iPhone 13 Pro) is a nice 6.7" screen size.  Reason 3 Software Updates The Latest IOS update is IOS 15 .1 which is on the 7, and up. With IOS 15.1 you can remotely unlock and lock cars with a smart key. All iPhone 13 models should get at least 6 more years of updates. This 2016 flagship still gets updates.  Reason 4 Siri With  Siri, you can say, "Hey Siri, call Jimmy Johnson" or "Hey Siri Text Susie and say" "I'll be there in 10."  You can a...
