The DOJ Gets Testy With Google
When I first heard about the Department of Justice (DOJ) attempting to break up Google, my immediate reaction was disbelief. “Are they serious?” I thought. I mean, why would anyone think splitting off Chrome and Android from Google would benefit anyone? To me, it just seemed like a bunch of out-of-touch politicians trying to "solve" a problem that doesn’t exist. Android is one of the most open operating systems out there. Anyone with enough resources can make an Android phone. Whether it's a major brand like Samsung or a niche phone like the Light Phone, which doesn’t even come with Google or apps, the flexibility is unmatched. Yet, the DOJ is somehow convinced Google’s control over Android is monopolistic. When I dug deeper, I found out the DOJ also wants to split off Chrome. Now, this made even less sense to me.
