Image
Hello, this is TheTechBoy with a review of Shortwave. Shortwave gave us some promotion codes, and we are doing a giveaway for three months of Shortwave Standard, read on to find out more.   Shortwave is an email client that can connect to Gmail. I opted to try the free plan which means the last 90 days of the email will be imported into Shortwave. Shortwave has a paid plan and one that is coming to companies soon.  There is a desktop, IOS, and beta Android application.  UI      Shortwave offers a different user experience than Gmail. It uses different terminology and has all the emails lined up vertically instead of horizontally on the web application. The desktop application is a Progressive Web Application and looks exactly the same as the Online Application. The new way of doing things is shown in the sidebar. Shortwave calls archived emails, 'done' and have threaded messaging on the sidebar, and it allows chat channels called workspaces, that are n...

Oppo Find N

Hello, this is TheTechBoy with a Press Release from Oppo.       The Oppo Find N foldable phone has been released. It is a foldable phone that features a 5.49 folded and 7.1 unfolded display. The phone features an 18:9 aspect ratio and an 8:4:9 unfolded aspect ratio. The hinge has also been featured in the release stating, " OPPO’s unique water-drop hinge design solves some of the biggest pain points in foldable devices by widening the angle of the fold in the display and offering a buffer when the display folds, resulting in a minimal crease that is up to 80% less noticeable compared with other devices, according to TUV."  "80% less noticeable compared with other devices"      The hinge also allows users to use the device at multiple angles and use the handset for "notes" and hands-free video calls.  According to Oppo, the device is "60%" larger than a 6.5-inch phone. The phone also has a "flagship-level" triple camera array and a speci...

How Much is a Smartphone Worth Pt. 4

Hello, this is TheTechBoy with a special report on the price of Smartphones.  Quality smartphones, excluding foldable phones, are around 500-1000 dollars. Some people complain that smartphones are too expensive, and want cheaper cellphones. For context, I did a simple experiment finding things your phone replaces and adding them to a cart on Amazon.  16. Portable Games          I found an old Nintendo DS retailing for about 195 dollars that a smartphone can replace. With the advent of game streaming services and mobile games, a handheld console may not be needed anymore. Yet, certain games cannot be found on mobile, and have to be played on a console. This makes handhelds like a Nintendo Switch a good buying idea. 17. Address Book          Your phone's contact manager can store the names, addresses, and contact information of a person. It can even sync to the cloud. The one advantage that an address book has, is that is impossi...

For context, I did a simple experiment finding things your phone replaces and adding them to a cart on Amazon.  11. Alarm Clock          Your cellphone can function as an alarm clock using your default clock application, or a 3rd party application. You may want to buy a real alarm clock to decrease the blue light in your room. The alarm clock in question is around 14 dollars. 12. Decibel Meter     A d ecibel meter measures the sound levels of a noise; your cellphone can replace a decibel meter, but the meter may be more accurate.  The meter in question is around 18 dollars.  13. Hotspot     Your cellphone can replace a wireless hotspot. A hotspot allows you to connect WiFi only devices,...

Watch          A watch/timer is usually replaced by a cellphone, but I know some people that still use a watch to tell time. However, as I do not have a watch, I just use my cellphone to check the time of day. Also, a cellphone can check times in different locations. The watch in question was around 20 dollars.  7. GPS           Car GPS's have largely been phased out by cellphones. However, dedicated GPS's may be more accurate, and as an added benefit, your phone battery may last longer. The GPS in question was around 66 dollars. 8. Voice Recorder      ...
