The best newsfeed is not what you think.

Image
When people think of news, they may think of apps like X, Fox News or CNN, Samsung News, or Google Discover pages.  Access TheTechBoy Podcast Transcripts       But while some feeds can be covered with sloppy, clickbaity content, spammy ads, or stories you aren't interested in, the best feed app is flying under the radar: AI search engine Perplexity.        Perplexity, known for its pretty decent search (it suggested a good book for me yesterday) with summaries like ChatGPT but with direct links to the content, also includes a news feed. I have it tailored to my tech and science interests, and many of my podcast episode topics have come from me reading the feed. My "For You" page is free of ads, and clicking on the stories gives an AI overview plus links to the original content. This is good, as it finds me websites I may not otherwise visit, like a supercharged AI version of an old-school feed.         Swip...

How to round picture curves in android.      For some reason I have bot been able to Find a mainstream app that does this style of editing. You see it in Trahan and other YouTube channels, and I always wondered how they did it. This is how you can on Android.      Open the app, rounding picture corners, and click the top-left icon. Then select your image and drag the slider. The black bar will show how much will be removed, then click the scissors button to cut.    If you are satisfied, click save. How to Build the Ultimate High School Election Website with Strawpage

Image
High school election season is coming up, and what better way to celebrate the two things I like most: tech and high school elections. Having a webpage and a hub for your platform is KEY in the modren High SChool Election  world. When I first saw this website, I was so excited. Finally, we harken back to the early days of the web, when everyone had their own corner of the internet instead of a social media hub. It merges mobile simplicity with the retro-futuristic 'computer' aesthetics of the 90s. This website is called Strawpage, and it is a website that allows you to create websites from a template, or you can use your own. For this example, the best template is the 'get your rockstar' template. ssaltw.straw.page      Access it by scrolling until you see this image. Then click the button that says Use this . This template is the best because it has a school aesthetic with the notepads and the background. However, unless this is a Mean Girls e...

Beeper Overhauls Security with On-Device Messaging and Launches Premium Subscription

Image
Beeper, the cross-platform messaging aggregator, is making waves with a major shift in how it handles message delivery and user privacy. The company announced today that it is rolling out on-device connections, eliminating the need for its previous cloud relay system and ushering in end-to-end encryption across supported messaging platforms. The move marks a significant evolution in Beeper’s architecture. Previously, the Beeper app connected to Beeper Cloud, which in turn interfaced with platforms like iMessage, WhatsApp, and Signal. With today’s announcement, that cloud layer is being phased out. Users' devices will now connect directly to the messaging networks, improving privacy and data control. “This means a little extra setup effort for new devices, but it also means that you get end-to-end encryption for all networks that support them,” the company said in its official blog post. The change won’t impact current users of Beeper Cloud right away. The compa...

The App Economy Killed Computers and Innovation

Image
"There's an app for that"—this famous line didn't just sell iPhones, it killed the PC. In the early to mid-2000s, it was clear: phones were for communication, computers were for everything else, and laptops were for the rich. This is demonstrated across multiple TV shows well. Zoey 101—the teens are impressed with their T-Mobile Hiptops that can send instant messages and browse the web, but the primary computing and web browsing device is a computer. Good Luck Charlie also shows this as well, with the vlogs being recorded on a video camera and edited on a very prominent laptop. However, as smartphones got more powerful and more applications got developed, companies and consumers got lazy. On any given day, the top 10 applications will be some sort of messaging application, some social media application, and a shopping application. As smartphones proliferated and usage in the USA doubled from 107.2 million in 2011 to 217.3 million in 2015, c...

ChatGPT is the BEST At file Search!!

Image
ChatGPT is a great tool for file search, even better than NotebookLM and Google's own Gemini. I uploaded a compiled YouTube transcript, downloaded using my tools (*V2 coming out soon with API key saving, timestamps, and video titles). I asked it about the multiple, uh, anti-teen dating comments made in my podcast episodes.     After uploading the file, it found multiple (mostly accurate) quotes. However, the tool could use some work. I asked for some patriotic quotes or just "crazy" quotes, and it will sometimes return bad data or hallucinate. However, it is a great tool for video editors, researchers, and spies.
